Sensitive skin is characterized by an overreaction to
external influences. Sensitivity can be present in normal, dry and oily skins
and at any age. It is most common among people of Celtic descent, particularly
redheads and people with blond hair and blue eyes. Sensitive skin is thinner
than other skin types and the nerve endings and blood vessels are closer to the
surface of the skin, which is believed to be one of the causes of the
oversensitivity.
Sensitive skin needs to be treated especially gently. The
causes of irritation can vary with each individual, so a sensitive skin care
program can vary. Generally, however, products containing alcohol, artificial
colors and artificial fragrances should be avoided. Highly active ingredients
such as aromatherapy essential oils or alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) should be
used in very low percentages or may need to be avoided completely.

sensitive skin,
